Far Right Leader Wilders’ Freedom Party Tops Netherlands Polls

The culmination of the vote-counting process has marked the conclusion of the early general elections in the Netherlands, held yesterday. In the latest reports, the Freedom Party (PVV), spearheaded by Geert Wilders, often likened to the ‘Trump of the Netherlands,’ clinched a notable 37 out of 150 seats. Following closely behind, the Green Labor Alliance, led by Frans Timmermans, secured a significant 25 seats, while the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), led by Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius, attained 24 seats. Pieter Omtzigt’s New Social Contract secured a respectable 20 seats, placing fourth in the polls.

With a reported voter turnout of 77.7%, a few municipalities are yet to complete their vote tallying. The official election results, encompassing these remaining counts, are anticipated to be unveiled on December 1.
