Forest fires raging in Spain’s Catalonia region since Tuesday have burned around 2,377 hectares, impacting 18,000 residents. Authorities advised locals to stay indoors as strong winds hampered firefighting efforts, especially in the protected Els Ports nature park.
Spain’s national weather agency noted June was the hottest on record, warning of more frequent heatwaves. So far in 2025, wildfires have scorched 21,000 hectares across the country.
