Wildfires Prompt Evacuations on Greek Islands of Corfu and Rhodes

Wildfires have swept through the Greek islands of Rhodes and Corfu, prompting extensive evacuations. On Corfu, 2,466 people were evacuated due to a forest fire, including residents and tourists from areas popular with British tourists. Local officials suggested the fires were the result of arson. While a significant part of Corfu’s fires are under control, Rhodes is still battling with the situation. Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni stated that only 10-20% of Rhodes was affected and dispelled rumors that half the island was impacted. Despite the situation, she confirmed that flights to both islands are still operational.
