Wildfires Ravage Historic French Forest

Fueled by record-breaking heatwaves and strong winds, devastating wildfires have destroyed 3,000 acres in and around the historic Fontainebleau Forest south of Paris. The fierce blazes have forced the evacuation of 900 residents, while authorities have arrested at least two individuals suspected of starting the forest fires. Highlighting the severity of the crisis, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez noted that 32,000 hectares have already burned nationwide this year, far surpassing the total projected for 2025. “We will probably have a record year. We expected this with the great drought,” Nunez stated. To combat the escalating threat, police have detained 59 suspected arsonists across the country, a group that includes minors, adults, and repeat offenders.
