Woman on Bloodied Makeup Protests Violence Against Women

Emine Gülçebi Zabunoğlu, a Turkish woman living in Düzce province, organized a silent demonstration against violence against women in Istanbul Street and the National Garden on Women’s Day. To draw attention to the brutality that many women are exposed to, she painted bruises and scars on her face and hung a banner reading “Screams of silence” and “No to violence against women” around her neck.

“Femicide cases are on news bulletins every evening. I can’t stand seeing those children crying, women being subjected to violence and being killed. I cannot watch the news in the evenings because of them. These murders must stop now,” said Zabunoğlu.
