world’s first baby born from transplanted uterus turns 20-month old

The first baby Ömer Özkan to be born from a transplanted uterus has turned 20-month-old now. His mother Derya Sert (32) who underwent womb transplant in Antalya in 2011 entered the medical literature. The struggle of Derya Sert, who had a uterus transplant from a cadaver at the age of 23, started in 2011. Sert, who underwent a series of operations due to gynecological diseases in 2009 when she was single, was transferred to Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine on August 8, 2011, after a cadaveric uterus was found and the tissue group and other tests were fully consistent among 45 people. Mother Derya Sert said, “We got married in 2009. Our son has come to us a long way. It was really a long and difficult process. In 9 years, we have tried in vitro fertilization many times, I have had miscarriages and losses. But God has given me this time. Thank goodness we took our son in our arms. Being a mother is a completely different feeling. When you take all the troubles you go through, you erase them in one breath, you forget, you don’t remember. We became a nuclear family. Thank goodness we got our baby in our arms. “We spend the whole day with him,” he said. Stating that being a father is a very good feeling, Mustafa Sert said, “It’s an indescribably beautiful feeling. I want everyone to taste it” and noted that he is always with his wife.
