The head of state, vice president, speaker of the parliament (President of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress) and chairman of the Central Military Commission were elected at the General Assembly session in the capital Beijing.
In the vote, which was attended by 2,952 of the 2,977 delegates to the congress, Xi Jinping was unanimously re-elected as the country’s head of state. Xi started his third term in power by swearing to abide by the constitution and he was also re-elected as the Chairman of the Central Military Commission, maintaining his position as commander-in-chief.
Besides, Han Zheng, who has served as First Deputy Prime Minister since 2018, was unanimously voted as Vice President in today’s voting. Zhao Leji, number three on the Politburo Standing Committee, the ruling Communist Party of China’s highest decision-making authority, was unanimously elected Chairman of the 14th National People’s Congress’s Standing Committee. Li Hongzong, a Politburo member, was elected First Vice Chairman of the 14th National People’s Congress Standing Committee.
