Zelensky: “I want to meet with Xi Jinping”

On the first anniversary of the Ukraine-Russia war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he wanted to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping after Beijing called for an end to the war.

Referring to the 12-point peace proposal published by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the political solution to the war in Ukraine, Zelensky said, “It seems to me that this was not a peace plan, a solution, or a declaration of China. I believe China is just sharing its thoughts. It is also very good that China is starting to talk about Ukraine.”

Emphasizing that he wants to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Zelensky said, “I believe it will benefit our countries and world security. We have a large trading relationship with China. It’s not just war. The point is that we are countries interested in maintaining economic relations. As far as I know, China has historically respected its territorial integrity, which means it has to do everything to get Russia off our land. Because that is what respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is all about.”

Stating that Ukrainians want to liberate all regions, Zelensky said, “I really want the war to end. Because we want peace very much.”
