Zelensky visits Kharkiv, conducts inspection

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, which was most affected by the attacks of the Russian army. Zelensky made his first appearance outside the Kyiv region since February 24, when the Russian army began its attacks on Ukraine. Zelesnkiy, who met with the soldiers in Kharkiv and awarded some medals, said: “I want to thank each of you for your service. You all risk your life for our country. Thank you for defending Ukraine’s independence. Take care of yourself.”

Noting that 31 percent of the territory in the region is currently under Russian occupation, Oleg Synegubov, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said at the meeting, “We are not yet able to fully control some of the liberated settlements, carry out demining and start rebuilding critical infrastructure while the shelling continues.” Synegubov also stated that 2,229 high-rise buildings, 225 of which were completely destroyed, were damaged in Kharkiv, and that 30.2 percent of the total housing stock in the northern and eastern regions of Kharkiv was damaged or destroyed.
