Zohran Mamdani sworn in as New York City’s first Muslim mayor

Zohran Mamdani, 34, was sworn in as New York City’s first Muslim Mayor nd first South Asian mayor in a historic ceremony attended by more than 40,000 people despite cold weather. First ceremony took place at City Hall subway stations built in 1904 and decommissioned in 1945. Mamdani, also sworn in twice in public at the garden of New York City Hall. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including former New York City mayors Eric Adams, Bill de Blasio as well as New York Governer Kathy Hochul also attended the ceremony.  Throughout the ceremony, security was maintained at a high level to ensure public safety.
