Zohran Mamdani Wins New York Mayoral Race

Democrat Zohran Mamdani has won New York City’s mayoral election, becoming the first Muslim, African-born, and South Asian mayor in the city’s history. Mamdani, born in Uganda to Indian parents, secured about 54 percent of the vote against independent candidate Andrew Cuomo.

Celebrating his victory, Mamdani vowed to make New York “a city for everyone, not just the wealthy,” promising to fight corruption, expand workers’ rights, and represent the city’s diverse communities.
