Devastating Twin Earthquakes Strike Venezuela

Interim President Delcy Rodriguez has declared a nationwide state of emergency after two catastrophic earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, killed at least 32 people and injured over 700 across Venezuela. Striking just 39 seconds apart, the massive tremors collapsed numerous buildings in the capital of Caracas and severely damaged the Maiquetia Simon Bolivar International Airport, forcing its immediate closure. With coastal areas like La Guaira described as a “disaster zone” and the U.S. Geological Survey warning of potentially massive casualties, local authorities are urgently working to rescue trapped survivors. In response to the immense destruction, several Latin American nations have offered immediate support, while the United States is already deploying emergency search-and-rescue teams and humanitarian aid to assist the devastated communities.
