Kyrgyz Health Minister Beishenaliev detained on corruption suspicions

Kyrgyzstan Prosecutor’s Office announced that 4 high-ranking officials, including Kyrgyz Health Minister Alymkadyr Beishenaliev and his deputy, were detained on suspicion of corruption in the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines. Prosecutor’s Office stated that from December 2020 to September 2021, 451,560 doses of Covid-19 vaccine aid came to Kyrgyzstan from international organizations, Russia, China, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. In the statement, it’s told that despite President Sadyr Japarov agreed with the Presidents of China and Russia to deliver more than 6 million doses of vaccine as humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan, upon the instruction of Minister Beishenaliev, 2 million 460 thousand doses of Covid-19 vaccine, worth 19 million 500 thousand dollars, were unreasonably purchased from foreign companies in April, June, July and September of 2021, and this money was transferred to the offshore account.  The Prosecutor’s Office stated that although there are 3,147,640 doses of vaccine provided as humanitarian aid, the authorities purchased an additional 2 million 460 thousand doses of vaccine for personal profit and 243,223 doses of the over-bought vaccines became unusable after their expiration date. In the statement, it’s stated that as a result of the violations in question, 19 million 500 thousand dollars were damaged to the state. It’s also underlined that a lawsuit was filed by the Chief Prosecutor’s Office regarding this incident, an investigation was launched and Minister Beishenaliev was detained on suspicion of corruption.
