Sea daffodils growing on Hatay’s 14 kilometers wide beach offers a visual feast in Turkey. Aside from its beauty, the charming plants is also known for its ability to help dunes to shape as it prevents sands to scatter around.
The endangered species is protected by International Union for Conservation of Nature. Damaging the plant is punished with ₺109,000 (roughly €10,030) penalty fine.
“Sea daffodils are plants that spread in the Mediterranean Region. They bloom from August to October and emit a nice scent when grown. They are endangered plants and there are penalties when plucked. Sand daffodils need to be protected.” says Mişel Atik, Minister of Environment Protection and Tourism.
