Ancient Turkish Lake Transformed by Summer Blooms

Built 2,800 years ago by the Urartians for agricultural irrigation, the historic Keşiş Lake in eastern Türkiye has transformed into a breathtaking landscape this June. Recent summer rains have revitalized the ancient basin, causing colorful endemic flowers to bloom vibrantly across the 2,550-meter-high terrain. Glistening water droplets resting on delicate petals now contrast beautifully against the peaceful blue waters of the centuries-old reservoir. Once celebrated primarily as an engineering marvel of King Rusa II, the site seamlessly blends historical heritage with vibrant natural beauty. Today, this captivating seasonal harmony serves as an open-air studio, drawing history enthusiasts, nature lovers, and photographers from all around.
