Iranian state television announced that the 10-storey building called “Metropol” under construction in the city of Abadan in the province of Khuzestan in the south of the country collapsed. While the search and rescue efforts were started in the collapsed building, it was announced that 1 person died and 7 people were injured so far. The Iranian Red Crescent reported that 15 ambulances were sent to the scene and 30 ambulances were requested from other provinces. A total of 50 search and rescue teams from different states were sent to the scene.
Abadan Governor’s Office stated that search and rescue efforts have been initiated and said, “We do not have an exact number of dead and injured yet. The number of dead and injured may increase even more.”
Iranian state television announced that the collapsed building was located in the city center and many people may have been trapped in the debris due to the crowd.
