The activist group Extinction Rebellion in Venice, Italy, protested top officials at the COP28 Climate Summit held in Dubai. Claiming that no progress was made at the summit, the activists poured a harmless dye into the Grand Canal in the city, turned the water green, and opened a banner on the Rialto Bridge on the canal that read, “COP28: We are hanging on by a thread while the government is talking.”
Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro condemned the action and called the group members, whom he called “eco-vandals,” to be punished.
