Greek government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis stated that 140 people were detained during the police investigation into the fires that broke out in the Western Thrace region and around the capital Athens, causing the death of 21 people. Expressing that 79 of the detainees were charged, Marinakis said 62 of them were accused of setting fires by accident.
Vasilis Kikilias, Greek Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, said that arsonists are making numerous attempts to start new fires on Mount Parnitha, northwest of Athens.
