200 ships stranded on panama canal

The drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon in the Central American region disrupted transportation on the Panama Canal. The traffic on the Panama Canal was restricted and 200 cargo ships were stranded on the canal due the extremely decreased water level. Panama Canal Manager Ricaurte Vasquez stated that drought season lasted longer than usual.
