3 elephants harms locals’ farms after escaping national park in Cote d’Ivoire

Three elephants that escaped from Cote d’Ivoire’s Azagny National Park have harmed agriculture plantings of the local farmers and attacked the residents in Sikensi, in southern Cote d’Ivoire. Locals who are searching for the elephants on their own, calling for a response from the government.

“I am appealing to the government because the elephants have become aggressive, they are attacking people. They just injured one of my brothers, my work colleagues, so I am asking the government to come and help us.” says Kouakou N’guessan Emıle, local farmer.

“I’m going to show you what they did to us, and we’ll go in search of them. Here’s the field, everything is destroyed. The field I was counting on was destroyed. I saw that in the camp everything was destroyed too.”

The elephants were brought to the Azagny National Park in Grand-Lahou from Daloa in 2014.
