37 Immigrants Rescued off Crete Island

A Turkish cargo ship rescued an immigrant boat adrift off the island of Crete in the Aegean Sea on June 2. It was said that the engine of the boat, carrying 37 immigrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, and Somalia, had broken down and had been drifting for days. The migrants were handed over to Greek Coast Guard teams.

“Two of the immigrants fell into the sea and went missing; three were injured, and one person was completely unconscious. They ran out of water, and they all slowly started to faint. We took the immigrants into the ship’s lounge, gave them water and food, and dressed their wounds. We put the unconscious immigrants in the infirmary and gave them water to help them recover within two or three hours,” said Gemini captain Seyfettin Özel.
