The Department of Disaster Management Affairs in Malawi has announced that the death toll from natural disasters during the 2022/23 rainy season has risen to 56. Many areas across the country, including 26 districts, have been affected by storms, floods, strong winds, hail, and lightning, with a total of 16,427 households affected. Additionally, 145 people have sustained injuries. The department is monitoring the situation and providing assistance to those in need, including food and other supplies to 10,427 households.
Malawi is currently experiencing normal to above-normal rainfall, starting from October 2022.
