The quake, which occurred at a depth of 30 kilometers at 16:43 local time, caused widespread panic as it was strongly felt across several regions. The JMA warned of potential tsunami waves up to 1 meter high, urging residents in coastal areas to seek higher ground. High-speed train services on Kyushu Island were also suspended as a precaution.
