About 700 dead seals hit the Caspian Sea shores in the Russian region, Autonomous Republic of Dagestan.

The officials began collecting seals and studying on the samples obtained from some of the animals in laboratory.

In another incident in 2021, 150 dead seals washed up on the shores of the Caspian Sea and it was determined that the seals were caught by fishermen with trawlers and thrown into the sea after being skinned.
