Chief Spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence of the Russia Igor Konashenkov made statements about Russia’s military activities in Ukraine. Konashenkov announced that 694 Ukrainian soldiers, 29 of whom were injured, from the Azovstal steel factory in Ukrainian city of Mariupol surrendered in the last 24 hours. Chief Spokesperson Konashenkov also told that a total of 959 Ukrainian soldiers, 80 of whom were injured, surrendered by laying down their arms since May 16.

Meanwhile, Konashenkov stated that the Russian Armed Forces is continuing its “special military operation” in Ukraine. “In total, 172 aircraft and 125 helicopters, 927 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), 311 air defense systems, 3,139 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 389 multiple-launch rocket system, 1,548 howitzers and mortars, and 2,997 private military vehicles were destroyed,” Konashenkov said in his statement.

Lavrov Signals New Round of Russia-Ukraine Talks

Speaking at the 13th Meeting of High Security Officials in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that a new round of direct negotiations with Ukraine will be announced shortly. He recalled that Istanbul hosted the first round on May 16 and said Russia will continue to demand the repeal of laws in Ukraine that restrict the Russian language, culture, and the Russian-linked Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Lavrov reiterated that Ukraine’s neutral status remains a key demand in peace efforts.
