Spain is currently in the grip of its first summer heatwave, with numerous provinces on alert due to high temperatures. According to AEMET, maximum temperatures reached 43 degrees Celsius. The spokesperson for AEMET emphasized the increased frequency of June heatwaves compared to previous decades. The heatwave, which began on Sunday, is expected to persist throughout the week. Certain regions, including the Canary Islands and the southwestern valleys of the peninsula, are experiencing exceptionally high temperatures.

A study revealed a significant average temperature increase over the years in major cities of the peninsula. In addition, March 2023 recorded minimal rainfall, contributing to devastating wildfires across eastern and northern Spain.
