The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an urgent meeting in Saudi Arabia following the burning of the Quran in Sweden on Eid al-Adha. In their statement, the OIC condemned the provocative act and expressed regret that authorities allowed it to happen. They called for measures to prevent such acts in the name of freedom of expression and urged the international community to oppose such attempts. The OIC also called for legal action against attacks on Islamic symbols and the implementation of an action plan to combat Islamophobia. They requested the reconsideration of diplomatic ties and the appointment of a Special Representative for Islamophobia.
