Forest fires continue to devastate the Mediterranean region, causing at least 40 deaths, mostly in Algeria. Greece, Algeria, and Italy are among the most affected, with evacuations ongoing and many lives lost. In Greece, where the fires have lasted for nine days, three people have died and thousands have been displaced. In Italy, three people lost their lives, particularly in the Sicily region. The situation in Algeria is severe, with 34 deaths reported, including ten soldiers, though 80 percent of the fires there have been extinguished. The fires have also spread to neighboring Tunisia.
