Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft, its first Moon mission in 47 years, was successfully launched from the Vostochny Space Base. Expected to land on August 21, the spacecraft aims to explore the Moon’s south pole and search for water sources. This follows the historic achievements of the US and Soviet lunar missions, and precedes India’s Chandrayaan-3 lunar landing expected on August 23.

Landslides triggered by heavy rain have killed 7 people and left at least 21 missing in southern China. In Guizhou province, 2 were confirmed dead and 19 are still unaccounted for in Qingyang village, where rescue efforts involving 400 personnel continue. Authorities issued alerts for nearby Hunan and Jiangxi provinces, warning of further landslide risks. Similar rainfall last week killed 7 in Guangdong and Guangxi.
