Five NATO warships from Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey arrived in Batumi, Georgia. The ships will conduct exercises in Georgian territorial waters together with the Georgian Coast Guard. At least 26 people have died after Typhoon Kalmaegi struck the central Philippines, most of them in Cebu province. Governor Pamela Baricuatro described the flooding as “truly devastating,” saying residents were caught off guard by rising waters. Many people climbed onto rooftops to await rescue as streets turned into rivers. The storm is now heading toward central Vietnam, with scientists warning that climate change is intensifying such extreme weather events.
