Water pipe bridge collapse leaves 60 thousand household without water

Over 60 thousand homes face water outage after a water pipe bridge collapsed in Japan’s Wakayama city, officials said. Authorities said the bridge holding giant water pipes carrying water to the city collapsed over the Kinokawa river causing water outage to over 140 thousand residents. Wakayama mayor Masahiro Obana said in a press conference “We are looking for a solution for the water supply, including laying a new line to another bridge that passes near the pipeline.” he added “The collapsed pipe bridge was built in 1975 with a 48-year period of use and that no issue was spotted during the routine inspections carried out last month.”

Local sources suggest that 35 primary schools have been dismissed temporarily due to current water crises.
