Approximately 65% of the restoration work on the Balıklı Rum Hospital, which was severely damaged by a fire in Istanbul, has been completed, including the roof and exterior. Balıklı Rum Hospital Civil Engineer Erol Yümlü expressed gratitude to President Erdoğan for his support, and the hospital is expected to reopen in the spring.
The hospital’s Elderly Care Home Building suffered extensive damage in an August 2022 fire, with all residents safely relocated and the fire extinguished by firefighters. Restoration efforts commenced immediately. The hospital boasts a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1753, with most of its buildings being historic structures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The damaged portion of the hospital has been meticulously restored, thanks to the support of various authorities, ensuring it is protected from winter conditions.
