In Arnhem, the Netherlands, the far-right group PEGIDA carried out a provocative attack on the Holy Quran, protected by the police. The group, led by Edwin Wagensveld, faced opposition, resulting in a brawl where four people were injured, including Wagensveld and three police officers. Three individuals were detained during the incident. Following the unrest, Wagensveld received police protection, and PEGIDA’s provocative action was halted.
Arnhem Mayor Ahmed Marcouch condemned the violence, stating, “I understand the sadness and emotion of burning a holy book. However, violence is unacceptable.”
