As citizens sought refuge in mosques and social facilities due to cold weather following the disaster, a second 7.6 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in Elbistan struck at 13:24, capturing the chaos on camera for the first time and exposing the severity of the disaster.
On the final day of the Eid al-Adha holiday, traffic came to a standstill at the Kocaeli crossing of the Northern Marmara Highway as thousands began returning to Istanbul.
Congestion intensified due to occasional accidents and vehicle breakdowns. Gendarmerie and highway crews are working continuously to keep traffic flowing. Aerial footage showed long lines of vehicles stretching along the route.
