Illegal immigrants attempting to reach European countries via Turkey hide in trailers of trucks transporting commercial goods. The immigrants cut the rope that was sealed and pull to prevent the trailer from opening, reconnecting the rope with a safety pin-like tool, which results in an uncut appearance. They attempt to travel by hiding themselves among the boxes in the trailer they entered.
A father and his son were caught last Friday in Turkey at the Erenköy Customs Directorate after sneaking into the trailer of a truck bound for Italy and hiding among the boxes. Hüseyin Hazar, a truck driver, said that illegal immigrants sneak into their trucks, “Trailers are sealed at the customs. The immigrants cut seals and they do this organized. They tie the rope after getting into the vehicle, which we don’t notice. We go under detention if they get caught.”
