Angry residents of Calcahualco in Mexican state of Veracruz stormed the city hall. The people wanted to meet with mayor after disruption at a water pump in the city, however got rejected by mayor. The crowd, which consist of about 100 people, raided the building following mayor’s rejection to meet the residents. They set fire to the town hall, and beat some municipal workers. The incident was caused by the fact that the citizens did not have access to water as a result of the failure of the water pump in the area where they lived, and that the mayor did not repair the pump, which cost 110,000 pesos ($5,160 dollars), local media suggested.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office reported that the eruption began at 09:45 local time, forming a 700-meter-long crack in the ground.
Authorities had closed off the area before the eruption. The volcano, which last erupted in December 2023, has been intermittently active since 2021.
