Chinese state media reported that the number of people who died as a result of the collapse of the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway in the city of Meizhou in Guangdong province after heavy rains increased to 48.
It was stated that some of the 23 vehicles detected in the area where a 17.9-meter section of the road collapsed caught fire, making the rescue operation difficult.
Identification efforts continue for 3 casualties.
