Deadly Floods and Storms Hit Texas, Prompting Rescues and Evacuations

Severe rainstorms in Texas led to widespread flooding, resulting in tragic consequences. The Johnson County Emergency Management Office reported the drowning death of a 4-year-old child trapped in a vehicle during the floods. Additionally, two individuals rescued from the same vehicle were hospitalized.

The National Weather Service recorded up to 9 inches of rain in 6 to 8 hours across central Texas to Dallas-Fort Worth, causing hazardous conditions and property damage. Lightning strikes triggered a fire in a northwest Houston garage, requiring fire brigade intervention. Houston’s airports experienced significant flight disruptions, with hundreds delayed or canceled.

Rising river levels, including the Trinity and San Jacinto Rivers, prompted evacuations affecting thousands of residents. Emergency services have conducted numerous rescues from flooded homes and roads in response to the ongoing weather crisis.
