Three Eruptions Rock Ibu Volcano in Indonesia

Volcanic activity at Ibu Volcano in Indonesia’s North Maluku province continues to escalate. According to the Indonesian Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG), three consecutive eruptions occurred at 01:30, 07:46, and 08:11 local time. The eruptions spewed lava, ash, and smoke. Authorities have urged residents and tourists to keep at least 7 kilometers away from the active crater.

The volcano, standing at 1,325 meters on Halmahera Island’s northwestern coast, previously erupted on June 1 and 4. It has been on the highest alert level since May.
