EU Leaders Fail to Agree on New Senior Officials

The EU Informal Leaders Summit concluded without consensus on appointing new senior officials for the next five years. Leaders from 27 member countries discussed candidates for President of the European Council, President of the European Commission, and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policies. Despite expectations, no agreement was reached. European Council President Charles Michel described the meeting as productive but acknowledged more time is needed. Talks will resume at next week’s EU summit.
