The number of nests dug by caretta carettas, which face the danger of extinction, on the protected coastline in the Alanya district of Antalya province of Türkiye, has reached record levels. It was determined that there were a total of 287 nests in a 3 kilometer area on Yeşilöz and Çarşamba beaches.

“I have been voluntarily protecting the caretta carettas on the beaches of Alanya and Gazipaşa for years. There are only 2 months until the end of the spawning season and I have already detected twice as many nests as last year. This year, by the end of the spawning season, it will exceed 600 nests in this 3-kilometer area.” said Güldane Şahin.
