Typhoon Ampil Disrupts Life in Japan

Typhoon Ampil has caused significant disruptions across Japan, particularly in the Kanto region. At least 990 flights were canceled, and high-speed train services, including the Tohoku, Joetsu, Hokuriku, Yamagata, Tokaido, and Sanyo lines, were suspended. Local train lines and highways also faced closures and delays as a precaution.

The typhoon’s disruption paralyzed daily life for millions. Many companies urged employees to work from home or ended operations early. Public institutions also shortened their hours. Panic buying left market shelves empty by morning as residents prepared for the storm’s impact.

Strong winds uprooted trees, knocked down power lines, and caused property damage across Kanto. TEPCO reported power outages affecting at least 1,550 households. Heavy rains also led to localized flooding in several areas.
