Kosovo’s Akdere River Nears Drying Point Amid Heatwave

The Akdere River (Bistrica) in Prizren, Kosovo, is on the verge of drying up due to soaring temperatures of 35-40 degrees Celsius. The river, known for its historical Stone Bridge from the Ottoman era and popular for traditional water sports, has significantly lost its flow, with the riverbed visible in several areas.

In response to the extreme heat, Kosovo’s Ministry of Health has issued warnings urging residents to avoid going out between 11:00 and 17:00 unless necessary and to stay hydrated. The ministry also indicated that work hours might be adjusted if conditions worsen.
