At least 12 people have died in Typhoon Rai that struck Philippines recently, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported. Nearly 332,000 other residents were evacuated along the way of Typhoon Rai. President of the Philippines Red Cross, Senator Richard Gordon, addressed the extent of the disaster, saying, “Houses were destroyed or partially damaged. The debris from the fallen trees and damaged buildings is serious.” The Philippines army and coast guard forces support the evacuation and rescue efforts that continue throughout the day.
The typhoon is expected to weaken gradually over the next 24 hours ahead of making landfall in Vietnam and China’s Hainan province by the weekend. The typhoon is not expected to have a significant impact.
