Poland Declares State of Natural Disaster Following Hurricane Boris

Poland has declared a state of natural disaster in response to severe floods and inundations caused by Hurricane Boris, which struck the southern and southwestern regions. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the decision, aiming to mitigate the impact of the disaster and manage the extensive damage. The government also plans to seek financial aid from the European Union (EU) to support recovery efforts.

Under the state of natural disaster, personal rights and freedoms may be restricted in the affected areas for up to 30 days to ensure public safety.

The heavy rainfall that began yesterday caused several rivers to overflow, leading to widespread flooding across towns such as Stronie Slaskie, Klodzka, Glucholazy, Ladek Zdroj, and Bielsko Biala. In Stronie Slaskie, a dam wall collapsed, and in Glucholazy, a bridge was destroyed. Two people lost their lives in Klodzko and Bielsko Biala after being swept away by floodwaters.

Efforts are underway to assess the full extent of the damage.
