Approximately 8.7 million voters living in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, formerly autonomous region where majority of the population is Muslim, went to the polls on the first day of the three-phase parliamentary elections to be held on September 18, September 25 and October 1.
The election results will be announced on October 8.
