Sewage Discharge into Bosphorus Sparks Criticism

Sewage flowing into the Bosphorus, Türkiye’s key strait in Istanbul, has drawn attention to the authorities. Zafer Murat Çetintaş, President of the Istanbul Environmental Council, called for penalties against the facility and other polluting institutions, claiming sewage is discharged at 10 points along the Bosphorus.

Aerial footage shows sewage spreading along the coastline near the plant, causing complaints from locals about foul odors. The waste reaches the Marmara Sea, reducing oxygen levels and harming marine life. Experts are urging an investigation and accountability for the environmental damage.
