Italy Transfers First Group of Migrants to Albania

Italy has started relocating irregular migrants to Albania under a new agreement between the two countries. The first group of 16 men, 10 from Bangladesh and 6 from Egypt, who were rescued off the coast of Libya, arrived in Albania aboard the Italian navy ship Libra. After docking at the Port of Shengjin, the migrants were transported to a nearby immigration center in Gjader, where they will stay until their asylum applications are processed. If accepted, they will continue to Italy; if rejected, they will be repatriated.

The transfer sparked protests from human rights activists, who criticized the agreement for undermining human rights and democracy. Protesters accused the West of supporting autocratic leaders and vowed to continue opposing the deal.
