The Singaporean companies Grace Ocean and Synergy Marine, owner and operator of the cargo ship Dali, have agreed to pay nearly $102 million to the U.S. government after the ship collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore on March 26. The settlement, announced by the U.S. Department of Justice, will cover costs incurred by various federal agencies involved in the aftermath.
The Dali was en route from Baltimore to Colombo, Sri Lanka, when it struck the bridge, causing part of the structure to collapse. Six workers tragically lost their lives, while two were rescued from the Patapsco River. Cleanup efforts involved over 1,500 personnel and 50,000 tons of debris removal. The compensation will be directed to the U.S. Treasury and relevant federal agencies.
