Bulgaria’s GERB Party Leads Early Elections

In Bulgaria’s early general election held on October 27, the center-right GERB party, led by former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, emerged with 25.34% of the votes, according to preliminary results from the Central Election Commission. This election, prompted by political deadlock, marks the seventh in three years due to the country’s persistent government formation challenges.

Following GERB, the pro-European Continuation of Change (PP) received 15.48%, while the far-right pro-Russian Rebirth (Vazrajdane) Party gained 14.5%. The Turkish-founded Rights and Freedoms Movement (MRF) took 8.49%.

Borisov expressed commitment to forming a government, stating, “With this victory, we’ll pursue the people’s will, although concessions may be necessary.” However, he cautioned that parliamentary fragmentation could hinder efforts to establish a stable administration, as prior attempts failed due to limited cross-party support.
